Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes: Official Complete Works

201111_SengokuBasara_SamuraiHeroes_OCWAll of us at UDON were thrilled in September when we were finally able to release Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes: Official Complete Works, the stunning official art collection of the popular game (released in North America for the PlayStation 3 and Wii video game systems). All of Sengoku Basara fandom had been waiting patiently (and sometimes not so patiently!) for UDON’s English edition to make its debut, but I think all involved will agree-it was worth the wait!

Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes: Official Complete Works collects the unique and lovely artwork of the third game in this landmark Capcom series. Included in this collection are character designs, rough sketches, rendered images, promotional images, storyboard cinematics, and even more fantastic artwork.

But there’s some truly amazing stuff in this volume for hardcore Sengoku Basara otaku…! For serious voice actor/seiyuu fans, Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes: Official Complete Works contains short profiles of and interviews with the cast of the Japanese game and anime series, a first for any UDON art book localization! It also includes profiles/interviews with the artists responsible for the opening and closing theme songs, T.M. Revolution/Takanori Nishikawa (artist of “Naked Arms”) and Chiaki Ishikawa (artist of Japanese ending theme “Backlight”). Finally, the volume also features an extensive interview with the creators of Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Director Makoto Yamamoto.

We’re so happy with the amazing response to the Sengoku Basara manga and artbooks, and we’d love to do more with the Sengoku Basara series in the future. So fans, tell your friends about these titles and we’ll do our best to keep bringing you all the Basara we can!

Sengoku Basara – Samurai Legends Volume 1 (UDON 2012 In Review)

(Hi UDON fans! This year we released a record 24 new books, including art books, graphic novels, and manga, and we wanted give them one last chance to shine before heading boldly into 2013! So here’s our publishing year in review, book-by-book with previews and more! – The UDON crew!)

SengokuBasara-SamuraiLegendsVol1

Sengoku Basara – Samurai Legends Volume 1

It’s the most-famous time in Japan’s history—the warring states period—and it’s never been like this! Samurai lords and fierce rivals Sanata Yukimura and Date Masamune form an uneasy alliance in order to defeat the dark lord, Oda Nobunga! The two will need to battle other samurai (including fan-favourite Keiji Maeda!) and henchmen, and use a startling array of techniques and powers to win the day!

A prequel to the hit Wii game Sengoku Basara 3 (but also standing completely on its own), this manga features a huge array of attractive, powerful heroes doing battle for the fate and future of all Japan! UDON has also included a special colour section which includes all of the original cover art in full colour, and this includes 2 volumes in one!

Written and illustrated by Yak Haibara, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Legends appeaks to action, adventure, and history fans (and the cute characters don’t hurt either). The first volume of this series has been a hit, and the series wraps up with the second volume being published at the end of January, 2013.

We know that all of you ladies and gentlemen that make up the Sengoku Basara fandom have been waiting patiently (and sometimes not so patiently!) for UDON’s English edition to make its debut, but we promise you it’s been worth the wait. The book looks great, and is packed full of so much goodness you’ll be poring over it for weeks!

But first up, if you’re not familiar with Sengoku Basara: It’s an epic video game series that has spawned anime, toys, soundtracks, and all manner of chara goods and tie-ins… and it’s about Japanese history! Basically, what we’re saying is: Hey, we’re sorry this book is late, but we’ve been working hard to make sure that every bit of information from the Japanese edition made it into the North American one in order to create a truly special release for Sengoku Basara fans.

We sincerely hope you enjoy this book and, if you want us to do more Basara in the future, well, it couldn’t hurt to tell your friends about this art book and our manga…!

Thanks!
